Canterbury Christ Church University.
Project
Conversion of a former prison warden’s lodge into a teaching block for foreign students.
Construction
This conversion project included: –
- Stripping out and re-modelling existing building.
- Installation of heating, electrics and data cabling.
- Small extension to the existing building.
- Installation of lift.
- Steelwork to strengthen floors of the building.
- Additional changes to the smoke and fire alarm system.
- Complete redecoration.
The old prison building is close to the city centre, which raised logistical challenges getting materials to site. The adjoining university campus was fully operational throughout our works. The timescale for this work was tight as the building needed to be ready to accept its first students in September.
